Ideas to boost your pool table business

With the holiday high season behind us and we are entering the traditionally slower part of the year, what are you doing to prepare your business for this time? Here are some suggestions and ideas that we have received from pool table stores and service companies across the nation.

-Contact independent sellers of pool tables in your city via phone or email, by searching your local online classifieds and local papers, and introducing your business. Let them know that upon the sale of their pool table if they could refer your information to the buyer you would offer a discount (10% is a good number) towards the cost of the move/service. This is something the seller could use as a tool in helping them with the sale of their used pool table.

-Design & send out postcard flyers about your business. A few things you could list on the postcard flyer are; discounts for service, hauling unwanted pool tables away, ect

-Have broken slate laying around? Art schools or landscaping business use it. Sell it to them and make space in your stockroom

-Consign used pool tables. Customers may need a pool table removed from their home but would still like to sell it. Charge a removal fee and a consignment fee.

If you are buying a used pool table and just want to get a nice discount on the pool table you may want to buy a pool table that was installed new from a dealer recently or within the last 5 years, many used pool tables that are older have been moved several times and many pool table brands are not multiple move friendly meaning they have little problems develop each time they are moved. You also cannot tell if a pool table was moved by a professional pool table mover or someone who did not have experience, the latter can do a lot of damage to the pool table that can be hidden until it's been purchased and the cloth comes off.

One thing in the buyers favor at this time is the market is very soft in many areas of the US. The last decade has been good to pool table stores with home re-financing for game rooms skyrocketing. This is not the case now, prices for pool tables should be down by all sellers. If you are worried about quality you may want to stick with the top three brands, Brunswick, Olhausen and Connelly Billiards, this is only an option and we do not suggest making a decision based on this website.

The best thing about buying a used pool table is the fact that most of them were installed from a dealer and usually there is no damage or wear to a used pool table besides the felt wear. It is very important, possibly one of the most important factors in choosing the size of pool table you wish to purchase, your room size and pool table dimensions!. When preparing your room for a pool table we suggest you do the following. These are common things we see when customers preparing for a pool table.

Ensure your measurements are correct and tape out the pool table playfield size on the floor. (see playfield size below)

Consider other furniture and room layout especially if you are getting a stationary object after the pool table such as a bar.

If your room is small keep in mind you may have to move small objects such as barstools and people while shooting and you can't move a stationary object once the pool table is installed but you can move non-stationary objects like small chairs at a bar.

We suggest considering the right size pool table for your room so the game is not cramped on all sides.

We also suggest being sure of your measurements before hanging a lamp or waiting for the pool table to be installed if you want the lamp to be centered perfectly over the pool table. One common thing that happens to customers is seeing the pool table frame set up and changing the position of the pool table at the last minute due to furniture ideas that develop or other obstacles that present themselves.

Finally we would like to say that it is very important to really think about your decision to buy a pool table if your room is too small. Cramped space up to 6 inches does not interfere with the pool table very much however when you get beyond that it makes the game of pool frustrating for many people and the desire to play may vanish.
